What Is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra is misunderstood. Yoga Nidra isn't just using the body scan. And Yoga Nidra is not just about getting to sleep. Yoga Nidra is any meditation that brings us into and ideally allows us to stay in, or on the edge of, the hypnagogic state.
I am publishing this particular post because I woke up with quite an unsatisfactory state of mind this morning. I believe that others also experience this sometimes. I felt grumpy and demotivated. After a Yoga Nidra meditation session, all was well. Really well.
The hypnagogic state is the stage between wakefulness and sleep. In this state, you might experience various sensations like visual images, sounds, or a feeling of falling. It happens as you're falling asleep but are not fully asleep yet. This state is a natural part of the sleep process.
I teach Yoga Nidra as a seated meditation without back support to avoid falling asleep. This enables us to learn to initiate the hypnagogic state and remain there.
You can learn the practice from the links and information on the Yoga Nidra page on my meditation course website. All you need to do is visit the site and join using the 'always free' subscription.
